Squirrel Thoughts – Cutting the Fat

August 12, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

Dreams. Disturbing. Like about Linda Yezak wielding a knife. A chopper kind of knife. Something about cutting the fat. But I’m not sure that was directed toward words. Somehow my stomach was involved. And slicing chunks off it. And my thinking it would hurt. And being assured it wouldn’t. And then everything shifted to my […]

Self-Propelled–Or Not

August 11, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

I wrote a great blog post in my head. While I mowed the lawn last week. But did I write it down right away? Uh no. Take note: Take notes. Anyway. We had to take the rider to the hospital. The farm machinery place. Where I saw two boxer-type dogs sitting oh so straight together […]

Never Too Late To Laugh

August 10, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

Whew! An unexpected meal whipped out in the heat of the day. Hard work for anyone, let alone someone pushing against the ninth decade. Even if just supervising servants. Sweat dripped down her face and neck, trickled between her breasts. Who were these visitors, and why was Abraham so beside himself to see them? She […]

Carried Away

August 9, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

I am in the car on our way home from church. It’s a window-down, roof-open kind of day. But oh so windy. I grasp my hair in a fisted ponytail. But then give up and let go. It whips around my face. Stinging. Tangling. I close my eyes and lift my face to the sun. […]

Mystery~In More Than 140 Characters

August 8, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe is as good as dead; his eyes are closed. ~Albert Einstein

Contemplating Cancer and Other “C” Words

August 6, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

Cancer. I’m thinking about it today. The word alone spews fear. For the past. For the present. For the future. For the unknown. We hear that another friend or loved one has become a battleground. And we wonder if we’re the next target. We eat the right stuff and refuse the wrong stuff. We exercise […]

Squirrel Thoughts – Stress

August 5, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

I’m still high. Hazy headed. Because of Bath & Body Works. Yeah. Their fault. I ran drove (that’s the first time I ever used the strikethough–just had to try it) to the mall after meeting with my co-teacher this morning. She’s teaching from Colossians, and I’m teaching from Hosea this fall. Oops. You don’t care […]

Seven Sweet Ones

August 3, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

Post the links to seven posts in seven categories. That’s the challenge ProBlogger Darren Rowse issued. Katie (K.M.) Weiland and Linda Yezak took him up on it this week. It seems like a good time for me to join in the fun as I comb through all the posts imported from Blogger. Link #1: My […]

A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.” ~ William Wordsworth in “My Heart Leaps Up”

This is called a sweetheart plant. I bought it at This is called a sweetheart plant. I bought it at a farmers market in Ponte Vedra in Feb 2023. And it hasn’t done a thing except not die. I did repot it a few months back just cuz I thought it might need it. A few days ago I noticed it was sprouting a sprout. And today—10 days after having my aortic valve replaced and the day after having a loop recorder inserted—it has UNFURLED!!! A new heart. 🩷

I grew this from a pineapple top. We repotted it again over the weekend. Still no fruit, though. Our neighbor has a baby growing on a small plant, though. What’s up with that?

(Also, I do not have a green thumb. Currently the only things still living are this, an avocado, and a little Boston fern.)

There was not much to see--except the crane family, some blackbirds, a dove. And it was buggy. And a deer fly bit me on the forearm, and it swelled up, and I still have a 1- x 3-inch reddened area. But then... a pink parade.
