Window on Writing: Stuttering

January 19, 2011 By Sandra Heska King

Baby toys litter the living room floor. Along with the rolled and taped diaper I forgot to didn’t bother to toss. Wait. There are two of them. Kitchen floor crumbs crunch underfoot. Last night’s dinner dishes teeter on the counter–along with with those from today’s breakfast and lunch. We could eat off the dining room […]

Reflections on @stickyJesus: Chapter 5

January 19, 2011 By Sandra Heska King

Your best content will come from living your life authentically in front of others and giving God the glory in every step. That’s how your story becomes sticky and remains with those who hear it. ~@stickyJesus Yet some days my story is muddy. I try to be authentic and real and transparent. But some days–no, […]

He who knows no hardships will know no hardihood. He who faces no calamity will need no courage. Mysterious though it is, the characteristics in human nature which we love best grow in a soil with a strong mixture of troubles. ~Harry Emerson Fosdick so there

Saturday Snaps: Hospital Shots

January 9, 2011 By Sandra Heska King

His eye is on the sparrow And I know He cares for me. Hospital time teaches trust patience humility and the need to let go of control. My daughter had lung biopsies on Wednesday and remains in the hospital. Where I have also stayed overnight with her. So I’m a little behind.

Window on Writing: I’ve Been Published!

January 5, 2011 By Sandra Heska King

I’ve been published! Well, it’s not what you think. But here’s what happened. “I’ll buy the paper, the ink, and the notebook,” I told my daughter. “What I really want for Christmas is for you to copy all my blog posts for me.” “Mom! Do you know how many there are?” I did. But I […]

Textures of Text: A Blog Check-Up

January 3, 2011 By Sandra Heska King

He who would search for pearls must dive below. John Dryden Dive! I’m not sure I could get geared up about deep sea diving. As in scuba. Going down with all that extra weight. Hoping not to lose my lifeline or come back up too fast. But I’ve snorkled in the Caribbean. And the Atlantic, […]

A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!

This is called a sweetheart plant. I bought it at This is called a sweetheart plant. I bought it at a farmers market in Ponte Vedra in Feb 2023. And it hasn’t done a thing except not die. I did repot it a few months back just cuz I thought it might need it. A few days ago I noticed it was sprouting a sprout. And today—10 days after having my aortic valve replaced and the day after having a loop recorder inserted—it has UNFURLED!!! A new heart. 🩷

I grew this from a pineapple top. We repotted it again over the weekend. Still no fruit, though. Our neighbor has a baby growing on a small plant, though. What’s up with that?

(Also, I do not have a green thumb. Currently the only things still living are this, an avocado, and a little Boston fern.)

There was not much to see--except the crane family, some blackbirds, a dove. And it was buggy. And a deer fly bit me on the forearm, and it swelled up, and I still have a 1- x 3-inch reddened area. But then... a pink parade.
