The night hours creep
through jangled sleep
of beeps and bubbles
lights and voices
strangled by a crumpled sheet
a slew of tubes
every breath a challenge
press a button
take a pill
pull it out
put it back
push it under
shed a tear
stabbed by pain
smoothed and soothed
with a cold cloth
a gentle hand
a whispered word
and the visit
of a baby.
Abby is home now.
Time to heal.
Time to rest.
All is well.
