Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ~ Matthew 11:28
Few people know how to rest these days. Even on vacation, many people rush to cram in as much as they can before returning to their jobs, where they spend twice as much energy catching up on the work and mail that has piled up in their absence. Many of us need vacations just to rest from our vacations! Perhaps we have been looking for rest in the wrong places.
Note: My husband has often said his parents’ vacation mantra was, “We’re on vacation. We’ve got to hurry up and have fun.”
Jesus said, “Come to me . . . and I will give you rest.” Like peace, rest and contentment can be found only in one place, from one source, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus gives us the ultimate rest, the confidence we need, to escape the frustration and chaos of the world around us. Rest in Him and don’t worry about what lies ahead. Jesus Christ has already taken care of tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, Rev. Graham, 97 years old today!
In the stillness,

What was your most restful vacation?
Welcome to the Still Saturday Community where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and reflect on the depth of sparse words. We’d love for you to join us. Grab the button and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to be still together, to gaze long and drink deep.

What a gift to us that Billy Graham!
I’ve been quick to bemoan my low energy, introverted self, but I’ve come to recognize it as a blessing. I may not be able to keep up, but it forces me into places of quiet and stillness that feed my soul.
Have a lovely weekend, my beautiful friend. xoxox

I’m with you, Patricia. I can extrovert myself for a season, but then I need my quiet.

Love this, Sandy! Bruce and I have decided that we like cruises because we are too cheap to pay for the wi-fi package, so we get to “unplug” for the whole week.

Ha! My husband hates cruises. It might be in part because we had a bad experience with the only one we went on as a family–though some good memories, too. But he feels he’s wasting time on a ship when he could be walking through the woods. And he loves to eat. Go figure.

I’m not sure that I can pick one specific vacation that was the most restful, but I always find the best *rest* when we go camping. There’s a simplicity in the experience of tent camping, and I like the slower pace that seems to come over me. Especially at night around the campfire. Somehow being outdoors and looking at the warm fire and starry sky reminds me that yes, indeed, God is in control!
GOD BLESS!

Such a good post, Sandy! Our most restful holidays were when we went ‘camping’ in our RVs. After 55 years it seems strange now not to have one, but since we’re both retired I guess we’re supposed to be perpetually on vacation anyway. 🙂
Billy Graham has had such a remarkable ministry. Happy 97th birthday to him!

Thank you so much for hosting this party 🙂

This goes right to the heart here, Sandra! For quite a few months, I’ve been feeling like I need a vacation – away from everyone and everything – but that wouldn’t help – would it! The kind of rest I need can only come from him. Your message is going soul deep!

I love that mantra! It is too easy to forget what vacations are for when we are so focused. My youngest daughter is really good at reminding me of that.
Thanks for hosting another Saturday of stillness.
Blessings,
Dawn

What a wonderful quote and tribute to Rev. Graham!

What a wonderful quote from Billy Graham! May we look for rest in Him, for it is there that we will surely find it! Have a blessed Sunday!

It’s interesting that we both used the same verses in our posts! It’s so easy to go so fast through life that we forget to rest. And you are right about some vacations. I remember one, though, when we were camping by a lake. It was so peaceful. I remember sitting in a camp chair just looking at the water and the fall colors.
