“Sandra, shut up and vacation!”
Orbitz sent me an email with those words in the subject line.
“Seriously, get going!” they continued in the body. “Go somewhere!”
Seriously, how does one ignore that?
We are going to get going for a few days…
“Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.” ~ Maya Angelou
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” ~ 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
“I go among trees and sit still.
All my stirring becomes quiet
around me like circles on water.
My tasks lie in their places
where I left them, asleep like cattle.”
~Wendell Berry in “1979:I” from A Timbered Choir
and quoted in Praying through Poetry: Hope for Violent Times by Peggy Rosenthal
We are going to get going for a few days… seriously.
In the stillness,
Sandy
Welcome to the Still Saturday Community where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and reflect on the depth of sparse words. We’d love for you to join us. Grab the button and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to be still together, to gaze long and drink deep.

So grateful to have read this post as we are on vacation starting tomorrow. And yes, I think I will be serious about it 🙂 Thank you for the push to rest. Blessings!

Have a restful time, Joanne. I hope it’s long enough to get into the vacation mode. I remember my OR supervisor years (and years and years) ago tell us how she hated when we would just take a few days here and a day there. She preferred for us to take our whole two weeks at once. She believed it took a week to get into the spirit of resting…

Oh, Wendell says it so well: “My tasks lie in their places where I left them.”
Yup, they will definitely be waiting, so let them wait.
Blessings as you flee!

Trying to care for them all is a never-ending job anyway, right Michelle? Fleeing where I hope there are no fleas… but there may be ticks. 😉
Have a beautiful weekend, friend.
