Still Saturday: When We Are Busy

February 13, 2015 By Sandra Heska King

Christ is our rest

God wants our attention in the midst of this hurried and busy world. He wants us to frame our lives around him and the moments he has created for us.

We are busying ourselves to death.

Our minds are lost.

Our walk has been disturbed.

God wants us to shed our desires, our stuff, and our distractions so that we can find him.

Our greatest and most destructive sin may just be “being busy.” It is robbing us of the moments right in front of us. We have to learn to resist the anxious momentum of the world. We need to see quietness and rest as our salvation. Christ is our rest, our peace. He is the gaps and moments of our days. He is there to free us from the exhaustion, to direct our passions and lives. If we let our minds be consumed and abused by the world’s stuff, we will lose our ability to know God and show him to the world and our families.

~Matt Knisely in Framing Faith

Sandra Heska King - Still Saturday

Welcome to the Still Saturday Community where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and reflect on the depth of sparse words. We’d love for you to join us. Grab the button and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to be still together, to gaze long and drink deep.

Sandra, what beautiful encouragement today to Be Still. I love this: “God wants us to shed our desires, our stuff, and our distractions so that we can find him.” Oh why do we make that so hard? Great to meet you and discover your linkup. Have a great weekend,

It’s great to meet you, Kim. I don’t know why we make it so hard. Maybe because in finding Him we find ourselves–and maybe we’re afraid of that?

“He wants us to frame our lives around him and the moments he has created for us.” How beautifully said. That is poetry and I would love a picture with those words on it for my Intentional Living wall.

That sounds like a plan, Debbie. 🙂

I love the words, pictures and learning about the beauty of stillness. It is really hard for a doer like myself, but am asking the Lord to remind me “to be still and know that He is God.” Your writings are being used to remind me.

      February 15, 2015 at 2:34 pm

Oh, thank you, dear Alison. That’s an answer to prayer–that what I share could touch just one person. I’m learning to be undone by doing less–even doing less FOR God–and listening to Him more, watching for Him more–letting Him do THROUGH me. xoxo

Oh, Sandra, this is a hard truth to swallow yet one far to real. Thank you for the words of Mr. Knisely, and for your fine photo at the top. The whiteness of it all lend to the rest we need. Praying for that.

      And thank you. 🙂

Beautiful. We are on the same wavelength. What is deceiving us – keeping us from full concentration on living life with God.

I am guilty of being too busy too often. Our busyness keeps us from His presence. I want to slow down and allow Him to capture me. Have a blessed week.

Me, too. I’m getting better but still have so far to go… or so far to slow… 😉

This is so hard to see in our own lives Truth right here >> “Our greatest and most destructive sin may just be “being busy.” It is robbing us of the moments right in front of us.” I want to see & be & live in this moment. Grateful for the reminder! Blessings!

    • Sandra Heska King says

I had to stop and read that several times to see if I agreed. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. You shall have no other gods before me. Yep, I think I agree. My busyness keeps me from Him and tells me other things are more important… Ouch.

Thanks so much for letting us know about this book, Sandra.

It sounds like a beautifully written reminder that we all need at one time or another.

May we all be still and know that He is God!

    Blessings to you and yours.

That, I believe, is the one that got caught in one of the openings in the neighbor's chain link fence. We tried in several (safe) ways to dislodge it without luck and could think of no other option but to leave it. Somehow it apparently dislodged itself. We also believe this is the pair that was getting into another neighbor's garden. We haven't seen either one since the last cold snap, so we are wondering if they survived.
