Thomas Merton wrote, in a light passage in one of his Gethsemane journals: “Suggested emendation in the Lord’s Prayer: Take out ‘Thy Kingdom come’ and substitute ‘Give us time!’ ” But time is the one thing we have been given, and we have been given to time. Time gives us a whirl. We keep waking from a dream we can’t recall, looking around in surprise, and lapsing back, for years on end. All I want to do is stay awake, keep my head up, prop my eyes open, with toothpicks, with trees.

In the stillness,

Welcome to the Still Saturday Community where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and reflect on the depth of sparse words. We’d love for you to join us. Grab the button and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to be still together, to gaze long and drink deep.

the whirl
swirling, wind rush
of time passing
sometimes I feel I can hardly stand
yet here stand I
and there you are
and we both, drenched in His blessings

There’s just nothing like a good drenching. 🙂
The time has passed so fast since you first knocked on the door. Just keep packing…

I love the quote on the image. Wow! Powerful and thought provoking. Really puts things into perspective. Thank you for sharing & hosting!

Thanks, Kaylene. That quote has been tumbling in my head.

You know, I’ve tried to read Pilgrim at Tinker Creek and I haven’t been able to get through it. This post makes me want to give it another shot.
Love you, Sandy-girl.

It’s amazing to me how she can write a whole chapter out of simple things–like a snakeskin she found on the forest floor.
“Time is the continuous loop, the snakeskin with scales endlessly overlapping without beginning or end . . . “

I just found your lovely blog. Thanks for hosting! Beautiful photos!
Sandra Heska King says
Thanks, Ashley. I’m sorry I haven’t made it back here until now. Crazy week!

I want to make the most of my time–loving God, loving my family, loving others. It slips away unless we truly grab hold of eternity. Great stuff here, Sandra. Thank you.
Sandra Heska King says
It’s slipping faster every day, it seems. Remember when summer vacation dragged on forever when you were a kid?
Martha Orlando says
And, time waits for none of us . . . Great reflection, Sandy!
Sandra Heska King says
Exactly. And we don’t have to wait for time… it’s always here. 😉
Naomi@WhatJoyIsMine says
Sandra…Time is one thing that keeps on a movin’. Never stopping. May we choose to use it wisely unto His glory and our good. Great thought today. Blessings.
Sandra Heska King says
Yep. Always moving. And always with us. Making good use of it is indeed a challenge.
Sheila Seiler Lagrand says
Sometimes I think about standing outside time. But it always makes my brain hurt.
I guess that’s why we need faith?
Love this, Sandy. Love you more. Thank you for bringing us together here.
Sandra Heska King says
Ha! My brain hurts a lot lately.
Laurie Collett says
