“There’s a lot of glitter in the world. And there are a thousand ways to count shiny things: followers, Facebook friends, Twitter @mentions, and invitations. But there’s only One Way that ever really mattered.
“Lord, help me follow that Way.”
~Jennifer Dukes Lee, Love Idol: Letting Go of Your Need for Approval–and Seeing Yourself Through God’s Eyes

Welcome to the Still Saturday Community where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and words. We’d love for you to join us. Get the details on the left, grab your favorite button, and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to gaze long and drink deep.
Linda says
Absolutely perfect Sandy. It is so easy to get distracted by the shiny.
I wanted to let you know I have a new blog address and a new design. Happy, happy!
Sandra Heska King says
And it’s beautiful! Snoopy spin!
Sheila Seiler Lagrand says
So much glitter. Thank you, Sandy (and Jennifer!) for the reminder. xoxo
Sandra Heska King says
When I think of shiny things, I think of my friends, Tami Heim and Toni Birdsong, who wrote the book, @StickyJesus: How to Live Out Your Faith Online. They call our social media world The Land of Shiny Things. It’s a wide open mission field. And doesn’t “mission” imply we are sent into this land to serve… not be served?
Sheila Seiler Lagrand says
Yes! Yes!
Mascha says
How true! I often have the feeling that the Advertising, TV, Internet and all these things eat us too much from real life and suck away from us. Bring us off from the path, which is important.
Okay, I’m blogger … it’s also a way, contact found in the insulation (I’m autistic), but things like Facebook, Twitter etc. I do not want – it will give me too much distraction from more important things!
I have no cell phone, smartphone or mobile devices – which is too much for me. TV I use very rarely…
And I had thought, in Lent not to touch a PC … but now I have decided not to do it. An error? I’m not sure.
Without PC would for me time absolute silence, without communication (except with my partner) mean – really good time … –
Sandra Heska King says
Technology has opened up a whole new world and a way for people to connect who might otherwise not be able to–or who might find the shiny of real life too overwhelming. I think you’re so right about it’s ability to suck our life, though. Balance. We need balance. Thanks for sharing, Mascha!

LOVING your 40 words every day, Sandra. And I love being on the same page with you every day as we read through the New Testament. And even more, I love you. xoxox
Sandra Heska King says
We’re so often on the same page, it seems. And I’ve made it now for almost 6 days… I actually have a Monday post almost ready to go. Think I can do this for all of Lent? 🙂
I love you, too. xoxo

I’m trying to wrap my brain not around the need for approval but the fear of getting slammed – kind of the same but not. I so enjoyed the paths in your photos – paths are kind of like barns to me – I love taking photos of them! Wishing you blessing this week in your quest!
Sandra Heska King says
I love barns, too! And old broken down houses. They really get my imagination running.
And I understand the need and the fear thing…
Kathryn Ross says
Oh, the joys of a quiet house for the solace of solitude and ministry of sanctuary it brings to the spirit. Whether the interior sanctuary of my quiet time corner chair or the inviting wooded path you’ve captured on film here – I never sit, or walk, alone . . .
Joy!
Kathy
Sandra Heska King says
Amen, Kathy! We might be lonely, but we’re never alone.

I need to keep up with you better, BUT you are a blessing, and greatly appreciated whenever I can be “with” you. You have a true God-gift in your way of sharing. Bless you…
Sandra Heska King says
Thank you, dear Joanne. But never feel like you need to keep up with me–or anybody. (I can barely keep up with myself.) Now keeping up with God… that’s something altogether different. 🙂
And remember… we’re all about slowing it down and keeping it still here. 😉
