Thursday, October 6
Matthew’s devastated Jeremie,
and now he’s got his eye on Jeremy,
but Jeremy can run.
He can take his family and run west
away from the storm.
And if it all crumbles,
he’s covered.
Today we clean and carry away
the leftovers,
go out to eat, laugh.
There’s no time to cry
except over Haiti where
the winds have carried it all away.
Tonight we’ll sleep on the
air mattress again with a roof
over our heads, but
the house is a shell,
and we’re all a little unsteady
just holding on,
because tomorrow we’re letting go.
