The power of the Holy Spirit is life; it is like breath in our lungs. It is the Spirit of God, not just hovering over the waters and the deep, but now, at our behest and invitation, infused into our very being and dwelling within us. We cannot see him, but if we’re paying attention, we know when he’s there. Moving forward without first surrendering to the Holy Spirit leaves us spiritually breathless . . .
Here is a magnificent and true dichotomy: we cannot truly surrender to the Holy Spirit without the Holy Spirit first breathing surrender into us. It is surrender unto surrender. We want to live a life of significance, but we can’t live it until we release our hold on it. A life surrendered to the Spirit of God is a life lived with open hands, palms turned upward in letting go. We have to let go so we can live.

Welcome to the Still Saturday Community where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and reflect on the depth of sparse words. We’d love for you to join us. Grab the button and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to be still together, to gaze long and drink deep.

Oh, Nina. Run, don’t walk, and get her words. (I remember back when she said she was *not* going to write a book. Never say “not.” 🙂

Such a lovely, thoughtful post. “… we cannot truly surrender to the Holy Spirit without the Holy Spirit first breathing surrender into us. It is surrender unto surrender.” How true this is! And how wonderful that He does “breathe” into us enabling us to surrender and to follow Him. I think this is my first time here and it is very refreshing. Blessings to you!
Sandra Heska King says
It’s really something to think about, right? We don’t *do* anything. Blessings to you, too, Gayl.

This post is actually calming to read. I think that’s what surrendering can do. Even the idea of it calms the soul.

It’s like letting down a heavy load and taking in a deep breath of fall … 🙂
