Our Haitian guide called this a cha-cha tree. He said the beans were dried and used for shakers (like maracas or rattles?) and that when he was a kid, he and his friends used them as play swords.
Lord, purge our eyes to see
Within the seed a tree
Within the glowing egg a bird,
Within the shroud a butterfly.
Till taught by such, we see
Beyond all creatures Thee;
And hearken for Thy tender word,
And hear it, “Fear not: it is I.”
~Christina Rossetti (1830-1894)
Stilled to see,
Sandy
Welcome to Still Saturday where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and words. We’d love for you to join us. Get the details on the left, grab your favorite button, and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to gaze long and drink deep.
Yes, praying these words this week as I step away from the din of Facebook and twitter–Lord purge my eyes, that I might truly see… Thanks, Sandy. Praying your weekend is beautiful and blessed.
Praying this for you, too, dear friend. Rest.
Yes. Beautiful. Thank you, Sandy. (And what a seedpod! One like that gets our attention! But may my eyes be purged so I might see within it life’s promise from Him.)
Amazing, isn’t it? The pod. Him.
Dear Sandy
Since our Lord Jesus is the source of all life, it just stands to reason that He is within all new budding live! What a great poem, thanks!
Much love XX
Mia
The thought of purged eyes… that really grabbed my attention. Love to you today, dear Mia.
Hi Sandra ~ It’s been awhile since I’ve dropped in, but I thought the welcome mat might still be out!
Always, Linda! And a scone with your name on it. 🙂
yummy! I”ll bring a pot of tea …
Yay! I’m pulling out the fancy cups.
Oh, I adore this! I’m definitely saving in my favorites folder. Thank you for sharing!
I’m glad, Carrie. Have a beautiful weekend and several slices of stillness.
I was blessed to have a “still” end of the week at the beach – surprised at how easy it was to be at the beach with so many little ones and be able to relax, too, because they were so good at just “being”, as well…playing in the sand, exploring what the tide washed up. It was perfectly delightful.
May your weekend be sweet and perfectly delightful, too, Sandra.
I can’t wait for a beach visit!
I’ll be thinking of what I need to purge from my eyes so I can focus on Him. The concept fascinates me!
Something’s in my eye, but what?
Thank you, Sandra, for seeing as you do, and for hosting us.
There’s so much in that one short word–purge.
Now I’m thinking of Samson and gouging out eyes that offend…
What a beautiful poem. I need a social media purge from time to time – it really does help to tune my senses.
I was drawn to the lovely photo of the seashell. It is perfectly formed and delightful to the eye. I too want to just “be” instead of always cleaning, organizing, writing (which I love) and making meals. It is great to know that we were created to “be” in His presence to enjoy Him daily.
Wow, what a thought…. purge my eyes to see Him more clearly…
What a beautiful passage! May we see as He does. Thanks for hosting & God bless.
We need to see and hear – so beautifully : “Fear not, it is I”!
Blessings Nina
