Let’s be clear: poetry begins you, though you might not know or feel it. You’re alive in a world God made from words. And God’s words have made you alive, and are making you more and more so.
~Dave Harrity in Making Manifest, “space and silence,” p. 25
Maybe it’s our job to incline our hearts toward silence, to head for the slight grace that stillness allows from the noises of our world. Or maybe our job is to disrupt the silence just so, to make some arrival, some gentle voice, some concrete clarity, some step toward reconciling our presence.
Maybe peacemakers will be called children of God because they’re attending to the world. Maybe the meek are blessed because they disturb so little.~Dave Harrity in Making Manifest, “space and silence,” p. 27
Welcome to Still Saturday where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and words. We’d love for you to join us. Get the details on the left, grab your favorite button, and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to gaze long and drink deep
Still beginning,
Sandy

Beautiful, thought provoking quotes and lovely photos. 🙂
Sandra says
I think you might enjoy this book, Elizabeth. You should check it out. It’s kind of a 28-devotional with exercises, and you could end up with a poem–or more than just one.
Sheila Seiler Lagrand says
Sandy,
What a revelation! I never made that connection:
“You’re alive in a world God made from words.”
Really. I’m gasping. I can’t quite breathe. WOW.
Wow.
Thank you, dear one, for making the words count as you do, and for hosting us each week. xoxoxo
Sandra says
Isn’t that so cool? That we live in a world made by words? And we can continue to create with words?
Sheila Seiler Lagrand says
It’s beyond cool.
And Mia’s comment, about how we were formed not with words, but with clay? Just stunning.
Thanks for hosting us here, Sandra. Such amazing things happen in this space you’ve made.
With words.
Mia says
Dear Sandra
What never ceases to amaze me is that not only did our God create the world with words, He as the Son is the living Word. Yet, it was only man that He didn’t create with words; He formed our species from clay with so much care and love!
Blessings
Mia

I adore your squirrel photos!
Thanks for the peaceful Saturday reflection.
Blessings!

Thank you for your faithful presence here, Martha. You encourage me. Sweet weekend to you.
Michelle DeRusha says
Wow, I found that last line about the blessed meek especially gripping. Something to think about …
Lots of love, Sandy –

Yes, and just above he says,
“Or maybe our job is to disrupt the silence just so . . . ”
Deep thoughts to ponder. Lots of love back at you.
S. Etole says
These are wonderful; both in word and image.
Sandra says
I sure wish we could have skyped you in or something last weekend.
Lynn Morrissey says
More and more I’m sending God telling me to turn off TV news. I resist? Why? Noise can be addictive. And maybe because I don’t want to hear myself think. I need to remember that God fills the silence. It is pregnant with His presence. I saw you from afar at the retreat, Sandy , and never did get to say hello. Was surprised to learn that Laura is your daughter. What a special bond you too share–God and writing…….and maybe silence?
Lynn Morrissey says
That’s SENSING!……or maybe He is sending me into silence?! I’ll stop correcting my post. Just saw it is fraught with errors. =]
Sandra says
Ha! You’re as bad as I am.
Sandra says
Such a small group and still so hard to meet and greet and hug everyone. 🙁 I’m so sorry I missed you.
Laura’s not my daughter, though I’m pretty sure I’m old enough to be her mom, and I’d claim her in an instant. I’ll settle for sisters in Christ. 🙂
I love this: God fills the silence. It’s pregnant with His presence.

grace in the stillness – that is poetry – and so beautiful! Your squirrel photos are awesome. I’ve been trying for awhile to get some – but haven’t achieved it yet. Yours are delightful! Wishing you grace in the stillness this weekend!
Sandra says
We seldom have squirrels out here in the country. So we don’t take them for granted. 🙂
JoAnne Potter says
Poetry is practice. It is discipline. It is beauty in training. It is a perfect way to understand how so very little can signify so much.

My house was perfectly quiet as I read your post…. my hubby is taking a nap, and we are in rest mode for the weekend. It’s amazing how much clearer I hear Him when I turn off all the noise… this weekend has reminded me once again. Great post — as always! 🙂
Patricia (Pollywog Creek) says
What lovely thoughts….and aren’t squirrels a riot? xox
Shelly Miller says
Well, I finally got here! Glad your site is up and going now. I love all your photos Sandy, you capture the creatures so well. And that quote at the beginning really spoke to me. I read it three times. Love you loads and hope you have a restful Sabbath my lovely friend.
Kim Hyland says
“You’re alive in a world God made from words.” Yes! Oh, how I love Him and how I love words.
Janet says
Beautiful words to ponder…Thank-you for another meaningful post!
Laurie Collett says
Praise God for His words that shape us! Awesome post & photo. Thanks for hosting & God bless.
Donna says
Love the beauty of the post and the comments. The Word, the words, and the clay. Your squirrel is perfect, too.
Nina says
Your beautiful words are echoing in my mind .. to incline towards silence, or to disrupt the silence – to make just and appropriate disruption, little enough to awaken a longing or make a wake-up call … And about the meek – of disturbing so little. Thank you, Sandy! PS: I love your captures of the squirrel – wonderful!
