I’ve had months to get ready.
But I’m not ready.
I google “animals in Haiti,” “birds in Haiti,” “snakes in Haiti.” and “Haitian culture.” I immerse myself inFlickr‘ed blue and red and green and pink gingerbread architecture and cough from dust rising in YouTubevideos. I wonder if I’ll have to eat goat.
I comb through friend photos, stalk pages of people I don’t know hoping to find a public album. I drink in the faces of the children, try to memorize their names, try to imagine what that first meeting will be like . . .
It’s a BibleDude posting day. The rest of the story is here.
Photo by Tami Heim of the children at the orphanage in Jeremie, Haiti, and used with permission. She and I met on Twitter. It’s kind of a social media miracle.

Praying for you, Sandra, as you leave and as you are in Haiti. God has good things for you there. Good things.
Sandra says
Because He is good. Thank you, Jen.

You know I’m going with you, right? Thanks for taking us along. I’m praying for a good Internet connection for you. I don’t want to miss a word. And I’m holding you so very close.
Sandra says
Holding you close, right next to my heart.
