Nothing left but yellow leaves
they fall in earnest now
like tears
and tumble in the wind.
Stripped limps stretch
and reach through gray
to touch the sun and wait.
Hearts ache and break
for moments lost to hardened hearts
and tears
they hide behind the laughter
and leak through crinkled corners
in the night.
Would that hardened hearts would break
to hold the precious melting moments close
and see the leaves of Cimmerian regret
turn sunshine yellow
then fall and tumble in the wind.
JP and I stood in the neighbor’s yard trying so hard to take that very picture last weekend — catching the falling leaves in flight, the already fallen spread across the ground.
We couldn’t pull it off.
I resorted to lying down on my belly in it and taking the shot at ground level. Anything I can do lying down….
Oh, I should try that…
It’s on the front page at my place — turned out to be halfway fun. You’d like to try it, yes.
Love that photo! Love it.
This is stunning.
Thank you, Janet. 🙂
So sadly beautiful …
Hugs to you, Susan.
This is so moving Sandy. Your writing just gets better and better.
Thinking of you so much these days and praying for all of you.
So grateful for you, Linda. Next year? Same place. 🙂
Sad but beautiful writing, Sandy. A sentiment of longing that hard hearts could avoid.
Blessings,
Janis
Oh my, this is so true, so sad but true so often. And beautifully written and photographed. Thanks, sweet Sandy. And prayers continue for you and yours.
Beautiful.
WOW! Fills my heart… flooding over.
Would that hardened hearts would break
to hold the precious melting moments close
and see the leaves of Cimmerian regret
turn sunshine yellow
then fall and tumble in the wind
Ohhh, my heart is so burdened reading this beautifully written prayer. I pray it right along with you Sandy. Holding those precious melting moments right along with you.
This speaks volums about someone very close to me, a heart hardned from seeing to much violence and deceipt, and steeped in pride. I pray for him and the many like him.
Beautiful poem, Sandy. Touched my heart.
