It’s Five Minute Friday, and Lisa Jo is asking us to spring off the word, “ordinary.” Five minutes of free writing–no overthinking, no editing. And when you finish reading this, head over to taste some of the other offerings.
READY!
SET!
GO!
Just an ordinary Friday morning.
We slept with the windows open, though.
I reach behind me in the dark and pat around. That side of the bed is empty.
I roll over on my right.
The shade is up, and someone has squished a red plum in a corner of the sky.
My coffee tastes richer this morning as I sip it from my Laity Lodge mug.
The top half of a deer plows through the corn with two behind.
I grab my camera and race to the front door. I open it carefully. The deer stop and stare at me.
Before I can focus my lens (door ajar and hoping the cats don’t dart out), they dash back across the field.
I run to the backyard. White bathrobe tie trails behind. White flags fly ahead, racing, soybeans rustling, to the edge of the woods.
Soybeans! Why did I think it was corn?
There will be no deer photos this morning.
A bluejay straddles a branch.
The sun glints off a robin’s breast.
A sparrow sings in a Y, and I think of Jennifer.
And a strange bird perches at the top of the tree next to the garage.
Except it turns out to not even be a bird.
Everything is not what it seems.
And this only seems to be just an ordinary Friday morning.
But it’s not.
It’s extraordinary.
As are all days when we look through His lens.
STOP!
(Now, really. At first glance, doesn’t that top leaf look like a bird. I mean, it really could from a distance.)
Why is everyone hungry for more? “More, more,” they say. “More, more.” I have God’s more-than-enough, More joy in one ordinary day. ~Psalm 4:6 (Message)
I love all the birdy shots! And I can totally relate to things not being what they seem . . I have had a few days like that lately. Stopping by from the Gypsy Mama’s 5MF
I have a lot of days like that! Thanks for coming by, Andrea.
Yes. That top leaf absolutely looks like a bird.
But….after a wildfire in our area, I mistook a nearby black chow for a bear. So I may not be the most reliable witness.
Long story.
I’m glad we’re on the same wavelength, Sheila. And I need to hear that story. 😉
It’s pretty silly.
Backstory: I have an unreasoning, phobic, fear of bears.
LOL! that seems like my every day. . . nothin’ unusual there! 🙂 and yes, i can see how it kinda looks like the shape of a bird. if that makes you feel better 🙂
great thoughts.

Hi Steph,
It does make me feel better. 🙂
I can’t tell you how much it means that you think of me. Really.
I love you, my cross-eyed, Y-finding friend. xxoo
I do. Often. And you know my Grace does, too. Love you, too!
