Green like worship
summer dreams swim
in rippled cloud ponds.
Fern fronds bow and
stately trunks stretch skyward.
Arms reach for heaven
hushed by monarch
majesty and ancient
words carved in
dusty walls by
shanty boy ghosts
seated on log pews.
Hymns echo through
pine-carpeted cathedral
and the sacred pours
into lemonade lakes.
Playing towards God in Hartwick Pines.
The photo was taken from inside the log chapel.
And the first line of this poem came from playing with poetry magnets with Gracee at Saturn Booksellers.
High heavens, sing! God has done it.
Deep earth, shout! And you mountains, sing!
A forest choir of oaks and pines and cedars!
God has redeemed Jacob. God’s glory is on display in Israel.

“summer dreams swim/in rippled cloud ponds.” Your poem makes me envision worship in the woods. And that photo is lovely, with the green shining through the middle. Beautiful.
Thank you, Anna. I grew up practically in the woods (and on a lake.) I loved His world before I loved Him.
“Green like worship…” What a bold way to start this poem! I am fascinated by this possibility of color as a metaphor for a larger view of relating to God. Puts me in the forest, right there.
Beautiful imagery. Wish I was there, too.
Thanks, Brad. You would love it there, I think. It’s where our little school used to always go on the last day of school to picnic.
He is definitely a colorful Creator!
Love it, Sandy. This breathes summer and creation!
🙂 Thanks, Michelle. There’s death here, too, I think. In a nourishing sort of way.
Bee-yoo-ti-ful. You completely evoked the scene for me, and the pic is a perfect illustration. I could smell it, see it, even taste it almost. Thanks for sharing that, Snady!
Hi Katie! So that made me spin happy. Thanks!
A cathedral not built by human hands … and filled with His glory.
Safe under His canopy. 🙂
Oh, wow. It sounds the perfect playdate. The cool of the green on the hot summer day…it just speaks refresh. And that is some view. Love it, Sandy.
God’s glory is on display! Love that the magnet words gave you the first sentence and the rest inspired by God. Beautiful!
The Creation knows…
Gosh, I’d love to see that. Everything around here is dead.
