Lisa Jo is taking her five minutes over at incourage today.
Her challenge: Write for 5 minutes flat for pure unedited love of the written word on the prompt, “Still.”
GO!
I stop.
Still.
And wonder.
Why does the breeze ripple the lake everywhere but in its center?
Why is the center so still?
So calm?
So clear?
Is it because it’s gone deep in the center?
Or is it because it’s simply centered?
And can’t be ruffled?
Or touched by the wind?
I am hushed.
Still.
STOP!
He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
~Psalm 107:29 (NIV)

Perfect words for that amazing picture Sandy.
Sandra says
Serene. I love the word serene. I want to go back and insert the word serene. But that’s breaking the rules . . .
Thanks, Linda. 🙂

Sandra, I had never observed that “stillness” at the center before. I loved that you drew the comparison between the water’s stillness and our stillness with a dozen words!
Sandra says
I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that. Interesting, that lake is one we saw in the Sand Lakes Quiet Area where we hiked last weekend. Apt.
Stephanie Shott says
Loved this, Sandra! Needed a bit of still after weeks of “can’t stop yet”! 🙂

Praying for you, my sweet friend. Love how He is using you.

Hi Sandra–So happy to see your face over on the links for 5-minute Friday.
I paused for a while at this line: “Is it because it’s gone deep in the center?” I stopped and let that one settle for a while. I skim along the surface of life sometimes and need so much to be still and sink into the depths of God’s cool, refreshing waters. What a perfect thought to end this day with.
Sandra says
I love what spills (or sometime simply drips) in these five minutes. And I love when those words give pause. I skim sometimes, too–too often. Blessings on your weekend, Mari.

Well…as usual, dear Sandy, it’s perfect. And the wilderness area actually as the word Quiet in it?? How wonderful is that?? Thanks for this. I went a completely other direction with the word – and that surprised me. I thought I was heading toward your definition- but then you just never know, do you? Have a lovely lweekend!
Sandra says
Good to see you’ve been able to come up for air. 🙂 You are such a blessing. And no, you never know what will leak out when you don’t think too much.

make that ‘HAS’ the word quiet…I’m punch at this mid-point in my two weeks of intensive study and nothing comes out these fingers as I intend!
Sandra says
LOL! I hope you’ve been filled to overflowing for yourself as well. And yes, here’s one of the links to the Quiet Area. And look. They used the word serene. I wish I’d used the word serene . . .

This is perfect Sandra — and the photos is gorgeous.
there’s a website that everyday offers a new word where you write for One Minute — it too is really cool!
Sandra says
I stumbled on that site not too long ago. Or maybe you already told me about it? I need to try it.
Have a gorgeous weekend, Louise.
And thanks. 🙂

I L O V E this! What a perfect image of life in Christ — centered, perfect peace, calm in the midst and messiness of life, of storm. Thank you for words that reached the deep places in my soul today.
