Through and Through Life: Motherhood Should Come With

May 5, 2011 By Sandra Heska King

I love that I can back date my posts.

Because this is Thursday’s post.

Written and posted on Friday.

Because I’ve scrambled this week to keep up.

But it’s all good because I recently discovered Five Minute Fridays with Lisa Jo, the Gypsy Mama.

And it gives me a chance to try.

The rules: Throw caution to the wind, and write your heart out for five minutes.

Only.

No editing allowed.

So I set the timer.

I wrote the first line, then last two lines first, and then the stuff in between until the ding.

Or in my case, until the Droid bling, bling, blinged.

GO!

Motherhood should come with a lifetime supply of duct tape.

To bind pieces of a heart exploded by joy and pride.

To bind pieces of a heart shattered by pain and disappointment.

To slap across one’s own mouth when words are too much.

To keep knees stuck to the floor in prayer.

To hold the clothing of compassion and mercy and love and patience in place.

To stick tight to the One with Whom there are no accidents.

Who saw fit to bestow the crown of motherhood.

Who sees the end from the beginning.

Whose purposes cannot be thwarted.

To stick tight to the One who collects the tears and heals the wounds and brings good out of bad.

The only source of wisdom.

Motherhood should come with a lifetime supply of duct tape.

Because motherhood is for a lifetime.

STOP!

I’ve kept my feet on the ground, I’ve cultivated a quiet heart. Like a baby content in its mother’s arms, my soul is a baby content. Wait, Israel, for God. Wait with hope. Hope now; hope always!~Psalm 131:2-3 (Message)

Duct tape! Love this – so creative and so absolutely true. As the mother of two boys, I know the mysterious wonder of duct tape. Now I have discovered another unadvertised use for it! Thank you so much for sharing this – I loved reading it. Smiles –

Thank you, Heather. That’s actually my sweet grandbaby, age 11 months now.

And I have permanent bruises on my knees. 🙂

Oh this is so so beautiful. How did you do that? How did you turn duct tape into word art. Thank you.

Well, I saw this new roll of duct tape on my husband’s work bench (the place in the garage where the clutter collects.) And I thought, “Yes, duct tape comes in handy for everything.” 😉

Thank you. This was fun. Kind of. Interesting to see what the mind rolls out when it’s trying not to think so hard.

Little bits of colored and clear plastic, big bits of plastic, bottle caps, broken glass, strings, ropes, straws, socks, fast food containers, paper, cigarette holders and filters—and a couple unmentionables. Took extra care around the turtle nests. Last count was about 70 pounds, but there were also some bigger things like an abandoned chair and a plastic tent. And a big piece of burlap or something with a fishing lure and giant hook attached. D found a Macy’s gift card that he almost tossed in his bucket. But we brought it home to check the balance—$24.60! We should be able to turn that into something useful for someone. 😊

That, I believe, is the one that got caught in one of the openings in the neighbor's chain link fence. We tried in several (safe) ways to dislodge it without luck and could think of no other option but to leave it. Somehow it apparently dislodged itself. We also believe this is the pair that was getting into another neighbor's garden. We haven't seen either one since the last cold snap, so we are wondering if they survived.
