Reflections on @stickyJesus: Chapter 14

March 22, 2011 By Sandra Heska King

Congratulations!

You’ve decided to blog.

But what do you write about?

Where do you get ideas?

As an ambassador for Christ, you have His content as your content. There are not enough days in your lifetime to exhaust the mysteries, the depth, the heights, or the dimensions of His life-changing, soul-morphing truth. ~@stickyJesus, p. 160

When we fill up our hearts with Him, we can’t help but spill.

But we can also harvest rich kernels from the hearts of others.

Content that encourages, inspires, and teaches.

Powerful content to share.

From all kinds of interest areas.

Thoughts that stimulate our own creativity.

Through RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) technology that collects and funnels your favorite sites straight to a reader.

Like Google Reader.

And save time by reading all in one place instead of content (blog) hopping.

Sweet.

Efficient.

I’m not very good at it.

I have stuff pouring into my reader, overflowing.

But I have not yet developed the simple habit of drinking regularly from that well.

Or making full use of all its functions.

And I’m missing so much.

(Hangs head in shame.)

So I’m glad this chapter includes a Google Reader 101.

I’m going to do better.

Starting today.

Really I am.

Linking late with Michelle Sarabia and friends as we walk through this book together.

I confess, I’m not very good about utilizing Google Reader. I’ve got a slew of posts there but haven’t figured how (if possible) to delete them after I read them.
I finally gave up and started getting posts to a second email address. How does that help save time? I have no idea but it was what worked at that moment.
For weeks, after considering deleting my blog, I’ve decided to prayerfully attempt to have a schedule by my birthday & stick with it for the rest of the year. I want His content to spill out of me.
And…I guess I need to revisit chapter 14. Thanks, Snady.

I have to figure out how to delete, too. Or maybe they go away when they are marked read. I’ve been thinking about deleting all subscriptions and starting over.

So glad you decided to hang in on your blog! 🙂

      Spill, baby, spill!

You answered one of my own questions, why should I bother to Blog? I knew the answer in my heart, but you stated it beautifully, along with some great technical tips. Thanks so much for sharing.

I always go back to what I wrote here to remind myself of why I bother to blog.

      Keep blogging, Cecilia.

There’s so much to share … and this seems an expedient way to do so. And besides, it’s fun to meet others … like you.

Spent a couple hours this morning with friends fro Spent a couple hours this morning with friends from @spanishriverchurch picking up beach trash. Little bits of colored and clear plastic, big bits of plastic, bottle caps, broken glass, strings, ropes, straws, socks, fast food containers, paper, cigarette holders and filters—and a couple unmentionables. Took extra care around the turtle nests. Last count was about 70 pounds, but there were also some bigger things like an abandoned chair and a plastic tent. And a big piece of burlap or something with a fishing lure and giant hook attached. D found a Macy’s gift card that he almost tossed in his bucket. But we brought it home to check the balance—$24.60! We should be able to turn that into something useful for someone. 😊

That, I believe, is the one that got caught in one of the openings in the neighbor's chain link fence. We tried in several (safe) ways to dislodge it without luck and could think of no other option but to leave it. Somehow it apparently dislodged itself. We also believe this is the pair that was getting into another neighbor's garden. We haven't seen either one since the last cold snap, so we are wondering if they survived.

Thinking some may have tumbled from their perches last night. Pretty sure it will be raining iguanas tonight since we are under a frost advisory. It's cold. And windy.
