Sisters–one of my favorite relationships. What gifts.
“When 75 percent of U.S. homes are using social networking (Nielsen), it’s no longer an option for Christians to be online in some capacity; it’s a responsibility. . . Online is where people are and online is where Christians need to be.” ~Scott Williams in @stickyJesus
And once we are online, what’s it all about?
It’s not just about reciting the four spiritual laws or posting inspirational quotes or sharing links or promoting personal blog posts or books.
Although those things are certainly part of it.
What it’s really about is building relationships.
Real relationships.
Being real.
Sharing stories–joys and struggles.
Sharing wholesome giggles.
Listening to others.
Representing Jesus.
Being a servant leader, with compassion and consistency.
Including others, not being too quick to block them (with discernment.)
Being an encouragement.
“You never really know how God is going to use your voice online.”
~Scott Williams in @stickyJesus
I love the stories in this chapter of real online folks who have made real online connections.
Like Scott, who helped another through a crisis, one who may not have had the courage to share with those around him.
Like Jenni and Pete who used Twitter to gather forces to serve Nashville during the great flood of 2010.
Like Meredith who leads a virtual community in praying the Daily Office online and Marie who co-leads Tworship.
Like Heather and Melinda, gifted with the face-to-face presence of Twitter friends during times of personal trial.
It’s about instant mobilization of prayer warriors.
It’s about expanding real connections with real people across the world without neglecting those near at hand.
This chapter also gives online action plans for leading, serving, being consistent, extending compassion, bringing encouragement, and including others.
And it’s scripture drenched.
And by the way, several of my own real online relationships have turned real face-to-face, and I expect to meet more of these friends during the next year. They have helped me stretch in my faith.
“Help me see beyond the streaming words, faces, and images. Remove the scales from my eyes so that I can see the wreckage behind all the shine.” ~@stickyJesus

“the wreckage behind the shine”
it’s there, isn’t it, that we truly meet?

That opening quote succinctly puts it into perspective. Love your thoughts, and I couldn’t agree more. Great post–thanks!

Thanks, Jason. That we have a responsibility to be online was an eye-opener for me.

Thank you Sandra — your post reminds me that there is power in our words — no matter where we share them. Let them share them in goodness and joy. Let our words be instruments of peace…
Hugs and Happy New Year.
