February 16, 2014 By Sandra Heska King

“Cease striving and know that I am God.” ~ Psalm 46:10 (NASB) “The word we read as cease is sometimes read be still, let go, return. But the first way, the original way, is a verb that means sink.” ~Emily P. Freeman in A Million Little Ways: Uncover the Art You Were Made to Live […]

February 13, 2014 By Sandra Heska King

I’m reading Emily Freeman’s book, A Million Little Ways: Uncover the Art You Were Made to Live with The High Calling book club. still saturday: walking poetry

February 7, 2014 By Sandra Heska King

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. ~Ephesians 2:10 (NASB) God calls you his workmanship, his poiemia. What happens when God writes poetry? We do. We happen. We are walking poetry, the kind that moves, the kind who has hands and feet, the kind with […]

five minute friday: and so I write…

February 7, 2014 By Sandra Heska King

You’ll have to read the first part of Seth Godin’s post to get how Goldie Hawn fits into this quote. Unpredictable isn’t precisely the same as random. We can certainly make dumb choices, we can suffer from being unprepared, we can be the victim of bad judgment too. The essential thing to remember, though, is that every […]

a poetry prompt: lace

February 6, 2014 By Sandra Heska King

  Laced in Time A faded photograph from the old Morse School (is that the teacher?), scuffed and grayed tiny tied-together shoes, a yellowed tablecloth safety-pinned with a paper scrap– words penned in my mother-in-law’s hand, “belonged to Grandma Sandquist,”– a child’s tea set and a couple pocket watches, a birthday date book presented in […]

poetry prompt: hinged on a dream

January 27, 2014 By Sandra Heska King

  She danced between dreams rusted and worn, whirling and twirling until the music stopped, and she slipped through the keyhole of door number three where she found another door that hinged on a dream. And the lock was broken.   Still dreaming and dancing, Sandy Responding to a Tweetspeak Poetry prompt on dancers and […]

A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,

This is called a sweetheart plant. I bought it at This is called a sweetheart plant. I bought it at a farmers market in Ponte Vedra in Feb 2023. And it hasn’t done a thing except not die. I did repot it a few months back just cuz I thought it might need it. A few days ago I noticed it was sprouting a sprout. And today—10 days after having my aortic valve replaced and the day after having a loop recorder inserted—it has UNFURLED!!! A new heart. 🩷

Hi! Long time, no post. So… I grew this from a Hi! Long time, no post. So…

I grew this from a pineapple top. We repotted it again over the weekend. Still no fruit, though. Our neighbor has a baby growing on a small plant, though. What’s up with that?

(Also, I do not have a green thumb. Currently the only things still living are this, an avocado, and a little Boston fern.)

There was not much to see--except the crane family, some blackbirds, a dove. And it was buggy. And a deer fly bit me on the forearm, and it swelled up, and I still have a 1- x 3-inch reddened area. But then... a pink parade.
