It’s Not About the Gift
They spread a table
with handcrafted hospitality.
Take one, they say,
and when enough is certain, take another.
We, proud, hesitate
to accept a free gift.
But in the end
it’s not about the gift
it’s about the love.

Note: I took a whole suitcase of gifts to the Dominican Republic when I went on a blogging trip with Compassion a couple years ago. But I learned way more about giving the gift of receiving.
By the way, maybe a good way to celebrate Lent would be to sponsor a child through Compassion. Perhaps consider one of these children whose birthday falls on Easter Sunday–April 16.
