Even beasts of burden must be turned out to grass occasionally;
the very sea pauses at ebb and flood;
earth keeps the Sabbath of the wintry months;
and man, even when exalted to God’s ambassador,
must rest or faint,
must trim his lamp or let it burn low;
must recruit his vigor or grow prematurely old. . . .
In the long run we shall do more by sometimes doing less.
~Charles Spurgeon as quoted in Traveling Light by Max Lucado
In a world rocky with human failure, there is a land lush with divine mercy.
Your Shepherd invites you there.
He wants you to lie down.
Nestle deeply until you are hidden, buried, in the tall shoots of his love,
and there you will find rest.
~Max Lucado in Traveling Light

Welcome to the Still Saturday Community where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and reflect on the depth of sparse words. We’d love for you to join us. Grab the button and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to be still together, to gaze long and drink deep.

“Nestle deeply until you are hidden, buried, in the tall shoots of his love” – what a perfectly wonderful thought.
Have a wonderful weekend, my beautiful friend. xoxox

This is certainly a different – and most salutary – slice of Spurgeon than I usually read.
Sandra, I love the way you let us see the world through your eyes for a few minutes.
Blessings to you!

Lovely quote, Sandra. Thank you for giving me a reason to pause before my Saturday commences. Blessings to you!

Before the current calendar was chosen, one of the calendars didn’t even include the winter montlhs – no name – no dates. I imagine people felt separated, lost in an abyss. The winter months are a still time. I wouldn’t want to live in them without God.

Heavenly images for exquisite words calling one to rest. Thank you for this, and the weekly haven that Still Saturday can offer.

I’m a bird addict, and often think that, when I’m on the way to Heaven, the birds can be with me all the way up through the clouds and then the angels can take over and take me quicker and further to Heaven. I can hardly wait!! Thank you for sharing this, b/c it grabbed my heart.

Beautiful, Sandra – Thank you!

Such peaceful and restful words! I really like this from Spurgeon “In the long run we shall do more by sometimes doing less.” How true that is! Sometimes we get so busy when often we need to just stop and rest and pray.

This seems to be a theme in many lives right now, the need to enter into the rest of God, and also it was in my Bible reading today in Hebrews.
