Do not think, believer, that your sorrows are out of God’s plan; they are necessary parts of it. “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom.” (Acts 14:22)
Learn, then, to “count it all joy . . . when you meet trials of various kinds.” (James 1:22)
O let my trembling soul be still,
And trust Thy wise, Thy holy will!
I cannot, Lord, Thy purpose see,
Yet all is well since ruled by Thee.
from Morning and Evening by Charles H Spurgeon, revised and updated by Alistair Begg
Thanks to Dena Dyer for posting this on Facebook so I could snag it.
In the stillness,
Sandy
Welcome to the Still Saturday Community where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and reflect on the depth of sparse words. We’d love for you to join us. Grab the button and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to be still together, to gaze long and drink deep.
Beautiful 🙂
🙂
Beautiful bleeding hearts! Perfect for the Spurgeon quote.
Thanks, Constance. I wonder who first coined the name for these…
I’m on a Spurgeon kick right now — big fat Psalms commentary cluttering up the top of the dishwasher. I love his courtly language and deep, probing insights. I hadn’t realized that he was also a poet!
It seems he was a man of many talents… but more interested in winning souls.

My husband faithfully reads that devotional every single day. He has a copy by his lounge chair to read first thing in the morning with his coffee and one by his bed to read before going to sleep. He has done this for at least 5 years. I confess to have fallen away a long time ago. You’ve inspired me to return. Spurgeon’s mines are deep and rich. Have a beautiful day, my most beautiful friend. xoxox
Same devotional every single day x2 for five years? He must be steeped in Spurgeon. 🙂
Thinking of you today. Your art stirs my soul. Oh the beauty will rise from the ashes. It rises up in pink.
And the sky is swirling pink this morning. Love you, friend.
Oh, I have not seen Bleeding Hearts since I moved away from Oregon in 1985. Oh, they are so beautiful.
Spurgeon’s words touch me (as they usually do)…”And trust Thy wise, Thy holy will!”
That I would trust the God Who holds all for my life.
Will they not grow in Oregon?
Trust… even though we can’t see any purpose…
So beautiful. Hard to see the beauty in the harder times, but it is there. Thank you, Sandra.
And there’s no rainbow without the rain. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing this. It was comforting to me today, more than you’ll ever know. Lately I’ve been missing my dad a lot (he died 15 months ago) – and as my mom’s mind declines, I’m missing her, too. Yet, in all this, the Lord is there. Comforting me and reassuring me with His steady presence. And, reminding me that all these temporary sufferings will one day be swallowed up in His glory!
GOD BLESS!
Oh, Sharon. I’m sorry. Fifteen months is like yesterday, and now you’re in a long goodbye. Praying for you right now in your grief and the missing. A gentle hug for you this morning, friend.
I just had a disussion about trials and how we can also look at them as His mercy over us. It puts a whole new perspective on rejoicing through them.
Thank you for hosting here.
Blessings,
Dawn
Unfortunately (!), it’s usually through the trials He changes us… not the easy times. They’re just rest breaks. 🙂
Love the Spurgeon quote — perfect for me this week, and the photos are beyond beautiful! Thanks for hosting & God bless!
Yeah… that quote was perfect for me when Dena posted it. And still is. Bless you, Laurie. xo
“Yet all is well since ruled by Thee” – oh, yes – All is well – even in the midst of chaos and challenge! Beautiful photo, Sandra! Beautiful words!
Some storms last longer than others, but they eventually pass. And so we sit inside and wait them out, right?
