He was shrouded in sadness last spring
betrayed
broken
having given all,
but love came softly
double joy.

My son popped the question, and she said yes! We’ll be gaining a new daughter… AND a grandson. Color us all with joy.
In the stillness,
Sandy
Note: If you’ve followed my blog for long, you know my son wed his high school sweetheart the year my mother died. But that marriage did not survive. Now God is making beauty from the ashes.
Questions for you: How are things in your life this season–honestly? Does spring hold happy or sad memories… or both? Have you ever seen God work good out of the hard stuff?
Michele Morin says
So glad to learn more about your family, because I’ve only been reading for a short time. Spring is full of hope for me, and the beauty from ashes comes to me, like you, from my family. My husband and kids are the beauty that God has brought forth from the ashes of me — because He is good.
Sandra Heska King says
Ahhh, Michele… God is good, yes.

I got a text earlier today that said my baby boy (19) is in Bethlehem. Now that’s surreal. He’s on a journey that took the country boy to the inner city in Philly, to the Caribbean, Rwanda, Tanzania, Jordan, Israel and Palestine. He will go soon to the Philippines before coming home for the summer and starting college in the fall. It’s a gap year where he has worked and experienced different challenges cultural and otherwise. Last spring, I was graduating my last kid from high school and helping care for my dad as he completed his cancer treatment protocol. I was writing more and hopeful about a new blog. God took me from spring straight into winter (despite the hot summer days.) I started coming into spring again a few months ago. I have been in a season of subtraction, which like you have shown us in your writing, can be a very good thing. Thanks for asking and congrats on the beautiful new additions to your family.
Sandra Heska King says
Oh, Dea. I’m so glad you’re moving into spring. But I’m glad for the winter time, too, and what began to unfold in that silence. xo
Martha Orlando says
Oh, such happy news! Blessings to you all!
Sandra Heska King says
I know, right? We do love both mother and her boy. So happy to welcome them into the family.
