Scripture Sunday: Like a Tree

July 13, 2014 By Sandra Heska King

(Tahquamenon Falls)

(Tahquamenon Falls)

But blessed is the man who trusts me, God,

the woman who sticks with God.

They’re like trees replanted in Eden,

putting down roots near the rivers—

Never a worry through the hottest of summers,

never dropping a leaf,

Serene and calm through droughts,

bearing fresh fruit every season.

~Jeremiah 17:7-8 (MSG)

Our tween daughter is named Ila. It’s a shortened form of Ilana which is a Hebrew name meaning strong like a tree. Grateful for the value God places on trees. His word proclaims His love and adoration… his expression of glory through nature. Have a great week Sandra!

What a beautiful name! Our youngest grand girl’s daddy is Odawa, and his Indian name (that I can never remember) means, “Big Tree.” 🙂

It’s so easy to find God in His created world. I love how He speaks through it. Sending wishes for a good week to you, too, Lisha!

WHat beautiful serenity and stillness pictured here, Sandy, and what hope. As I stay rooted in God, planted by His streams of living water, I will bear fruit in every season, and I need never fear drought. God usd Ps. 1 powerfully when I left my full-time cateer to raise our daughter. I really feared leaving the workforce and all my friends (and frankly, accolades). But as I stilled myself in the quiet confines of our home, raising Sheridan, and as I rooted myself in God and His Word, I was satisfied. I have borne seasonal fruit, as well. Thank you also for sharing the gorgeous video of the waterfall. I was enthralled when we visited Niagara. What a majestic display of God’s glory.
    Blessings

To everything there is a season, right? I’m glad you were able to lean into that stillness and found time to drink deep.

These falls are breathtaking. And they shimmer gold. These are summer photos. Autumn is spectacular. So is winter. Though I’ve only seen photos of them during winter. 😉

I absolutely LOVE this! I’m a big-time “falls” person, and would love to see them more and more, around and about. You made me rejoice again. Ya dun a good thing, as usual.

    Blessings.

I’ve seen some beautiful falls in the north Georgia mountains and “around and about.” I’ve never been to Niagara Falls. I can’t imagine them being more beautiful than these. 🙂

I love this verse in The Message. Your photos are so peaceful. I am thankful that I can continually come and drink of Him, and that He is working in me strength to withstand every storm.

Hi, I just ventured into the blogging world and started one myself and through searching found this site.
I love those verses, they paint such a beautiful picture of our relationship with God as believers. And thanks for the video, I love waterfalls. A couple months ago me and my hubby visited Gooseberry Falls, which is not too far from Duluth, MN. It really made me appreciate God’s creative power.

Welcome, Angela! I’m glad the new path you’re following has meandered over here. I’ll have to put Gooseberry Falls on my to-do list.

Sandy, I thought when I clicked over you were heading for a similar verse in Psalms. Made me go pull out my Bible! Thanks for sharing–beautiful pictures and words.

I did repot it a few months back just cuz I thought it might need it. A few days ago I noticed it was sprouting a sprout. I grew this from a pineapple top. We repotted it again over the weekend. Still no fruit, though. Our neighbor has a baby growing on a small plant, though. What’s up with that?

(Also, I do not have a green thumb. Currently the only things still living are this, an avocado, and a little Boston fern.)
