I used to “do” the feet of seniors,
but these stories from a team trailing toes
in the red soil of Uganda,
there to care for soles
as well as souls,
beg me to bring a basin
and serve hope.

Note: “Doing” feet means that as a public health nurse, I worked clinics where we cared for the feet of senior citizens… soaking, clipping, massaging. I’m not sure I could dig out jiggers, but I can see myself hugging and crying. I’ve been following the Sole Hope Blogger team that’s in Uganda right now, and the stories are wrecking me. They give new meaning to the shoe patterns we cut out in November at The High Calling retreat.
As Logan says, “All they need is a pair of shoes.” She gave me permission to use these photos. Please, please go read her post(s) and then follow the graphic for the others.

In the stillness,

So moved by this . . . Thank you, Sandy.
The stories and photos are beautiful and heart-wrenching. So much we can do in such a small way…
Sandy, these are the more beautiful and compelling 40 words you’ve shared, thus far. Thank you. More Grace
Thank you, dear Donna. Grace to you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, sweetie, for this! My heart is breaking!
We are breaking together, Lynn.
Just beautiful.
Beautiful are the feet…
I have been cutting out shoes with my friends. Your post here, Logan’s and all the others I have seen are bringing it closer to home. As I cut now, I am praying over each one, that they would walk in the fullness of life, in hope, peace, joy and love, that they would be strong, and follow wherever God leads. O Sandy. The more I think on this beautifully simple way of impacting the lives of these kids as I read, the deeper they bury themselves in my heart. Beautiful!
