“Perhaps one of the saddest things we can do is waste time, as Shakespeare knew when he had Richard the Second cry out, ‘I have wasted time, and now doth time waste me.’
“But being time is never wasted time. When we are being, not only are we collaborating with chronological time, but we are touching on kairos, and are freed from the normal restrictions of time. In moments of mystical illumination we may experience, in a few chronological seconds, years of transfigured love.” ~Madeleine L’Engle in Walking on Water
chronos: Wrist watch and alarm clock time
kairos: God’s time, real time
Welcome to Still Saturday where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and words. We’d love for you to join us. Get the details above, grab your favorite button, and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to gaze long and drink deep.

Beautiful quote, Sandy!
Yes, I think we (I) often waste my “being” time by too much “doing”!

That quote by L’Engle is one of my favs. I’ve used it several times myself. Hope you have a restful weekend doing just what you want to do, even if its for an hour. 🙂
Danise Jurado says
On the surface, time can sometimes be perceived as wasted when in fact, it is really never wasted time to live and “be” Just “being” alive rises up the eager desire inside me to seize every day the Lord has given me for His glory! Blessings to you Sandra!
~ Patricia says
To live in kairos time, yes? May your weekend be filled with “being”. Love, Patricia

Your Still Saturday’s always give me such wonderful space to breathe. Deeply.
Laurie Collett says
It will be so amazing when time expands into all eternity in His presence. In the meantime, may we be good stewards of time, striking the right balance between being productive for Him while pausing to reflect & renew. Thanks for the great post & for hosting, & God bless!

Yes! This is something I’ve been learning through my son who processes time in a completely different way than I do. So many of my notions of time have been shaped by quotes by the above from Shakespeare and from America’s founding fathers. I have this notion that efficiency = faithful living.
Chairos–God’s time. Real time. Somehow, I think my son has a better sense of this sometimes than I do.
Happy weekend, my friend!

Beautiful quotes, Sandy! Love “being” time. We’re simply “being” today, wrapped in blankets on the couch with my hurt girl and allowing the rest to wait until tomorrow, because “being time is never wasted time,” and is instead rich and full, absorbed-in-the-moment time…GOOD. 🙂
Jen Ferguson says
Yep — I keep learning this. “Being time” is the most valuable time.
Lisa Moreland says
A favorite title by an honored author sharing deep wisdom from her on moments with our Lord; touches my heart.
Cheryl Smith says
Girl, you are speaking my language! Just this week I studied Mary and Martha, being vs. doing. The words weren’t new, but the revelation? Oh, so fresh. Maybe we should schedule a phone call. 🙂
Michelle Ortega says
After a very busy burst, I am having a hard time slowing to rest! Need to breathe and just be!
