The great day balances upon the leaves;
My ears still hear the bird when all is still;
My soul is still my soul, and still the Son,
And knowing this, I am not yet undone.
~Theodore Roethke in Infirmity
Welcome to Still Saturday where we pause after a busy week, move in quiet pilgrimage, maybe linger a while in some still place, and soak in the beauty of images and words. We’d love for you to join us. Get the details above, grab your favorite button, and link up below. We all love to hear if something especially speaks to your heart, but please don’t feel pressured to comment. Simply take some time to gaze long and drink deep.
Be.
Still.
Sandy, that top photo is STUNNING! Love! <3
Thanks so much, my friend.
Your birds are always so amazing… I love it.
I love “my” birds. 🙂 Thanks.
That really IS a remarkable photo, Sandy! Just gorgeous. And the quotation fits so well. “My ears still hear the bird…”, and they do, now that I’ve also listened to the video. 🙂
I was so excited to stumble on that video and those of other bird songs. 🙂
I have never seen one of those Grosbeaks around these here parts. What a lovely! And, of course, beautiful words.
Last year was the first I’d ever seen one. And then not after all the trees leafed out. I’ve only seen one so far this year. Aren’t they stunning?
Wow….Sandy!! Those are gorgeous photos!!! Lovely poem, too. Have a beautiful day, dear friend. xox
Thank you so much. You need to read the whole poem. Marilyn Chandler McEntyre shared this in her presentation on Caring for Words last weekend at the Festival of Faith & Writing as an example of “repeating for the sake of complexity.” With “still” repeated four times, of course I had to use it!
Not sure my uploading worked — but I did post on my Recover Your Joy site.
Thanks Sandra — I find this very inspiring! Love your photo.
Yes, it worked! Thanks, Louise.
“Gaze long and drink deep.” I love that. I linked up, but it isn’t showing up and it won’t let me try again so I’m not sure what happened. Maybe it will show up later! Thanks for hosting.
It’s here just fine, Stephani. And beautiful it is. Thank you.
You are so talented in your photography! My link today is kind of a funny post and (few words, but the pictures are a bit loud) and I hope that is okay!
Absolutely okay, Jen, and fun! Thank you.
Thank you for introducing me to a new bird!
I was stunned and excited to see this the first time. Only because I left the feeders out later, I think.
Such a pretty song they sing. Beautiful photo.
I’ve read that their song is like a robin who’s had singing lessons. 🙂
You are so talented! I am new at photography, still learning everyday. I am going to attempt to take our daughter’s senior pictures, (fingers crossed). Any advice?
Oh, Shari. Thank you. And bless you. I’m such a camera novice. I’m learning bit by bit, but so much of what turns out is pure surprise. I couldn’t begin to offer advice, but you bless me big by asking!
Oh, I love this Sandy, the picture and video. I don’t know why I love birds so much but I do. Except for dive bombing mocking birds who tried to take me out walking through my back yard one spring. I had to walk my kids to school holding a broom. Other than those, I love them. 🙂
Ha! That made me laugh. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a mockingbird. You must have been getting too close to some nest. Yes?
What a beautiful bird…I don’t think we have those in Nebraska.
Shelly’s comment about walking to school with a broom to ward off the divebombing mockingbirds made me laugh!
I wish I had a video of that!
LOVE this whole post. Your picture is better than the professional one, dear Sandy – just perfect. And such a lovely song!
Oh, Diana. Thank you. Like I told Shari above, if there’s any good in these pictures, it’s pure surprise. 🙂
Friends, you honor me with these links and your words. I love immersing myself in the stillness in each or your places. Thank you.
