If we had a keen vision of all that is ordinary in human life, it would be like hearing the grass grow or the squirrel’s heart beat, and we should die of that roar which is the other side of silence. ~George Eliot, English Novelist, Pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans, 1819-1880, in Middlemarch

Great snaps. I love yellow bellies – never see them up here. His creation rejoices. Duane Scott will love these!

I need this reminder to think about the squirrel’s heartbeat. All I usually think is, “Stop annoying my dogs!”

Sweet photos, Sandra. I enjoy watching the squirrels, but like Megan, often as not I’m trying to figure out how to keep them from teasing the dog or to how to keep them from stealing all the bird seed out of the feeders. (The best way I’ve found to accomplish both is to provide them with their own source of food. I put nuts in a feeder on the opposite side of the yard.)
“… the other side of silence.” That makes me contemplate all the wonders of creation that exist around me even when there is nothing specifically demanding attention.”

The symphony of the wilderness is entrancing. Great shots of this nutty little character.
