Sunday Seasoned Sayings: Give and Given Back

July 17, 2011 By Sandra Heska King

Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing.

Giving, not getting, is the way.

Generosity begets generosity.

Luke 6:38 (Message)

We fed the birds all winter.

And now dozens of happy sunflowers greet us under the feeders.

Bonus and blessing.

    That is so cool and I admire your pictures. I’m a weak photographer. Something I hope to improve with age. Photography, singing…I’d also like to learn Latin. (Not sure how I got here from your post…)

      Oh, that’s so funny. 🙂 I took two years of Latin in high school. We were “exchange students.” Some of us went to the Catholic school for Latin, and some of them came ran over to the public school for business classes. I took it in preparation for nursing. I don’t remember much–except a vague sense of conjugating verbs as the nun (in habit) strode up and down the aisles smacking her ruler in her palm.

      amo = I love
      amas = you (singular) love
      amat = he, she or it loves
      amamus = we love
      amatis = you (plural) love
      amant = they love

      I think that’s how it goes.

      And thanks. 🙂

    Oh, how cool! I’m gonna quit mowing under our bird feeder. 🙂

      That’s the ticket! And they did not grow in the front–probably because we mow there, and it’s more shady. This one is in front, outside the kitchen window facing west, in a stone bed. The other patch is in back facing east where we shoved the feeder pole into the spot we would use for a small campfire–if there weren’t sunflowers growing there. 🙂

I did repot it a few months back just cuz I thought it might need it. A few days ago I noticed it was sprouting a sprout. I grew this from a pineapple top. We repotted it again over the weekend. Still no fruit, though. Our neighbor has a baby growing on a small plant, though. What’s up with that?

(Also, I do not have a green thumb. Currently the only things still living are this, an avocado, and a little Boston fern.)

There was not much to see--except the crane family, some blackbirds, a dove. And it was buggy. And a deer fly bit me on the forearm, and it swelled up, and I still have a 1- x 3-inch reddened area. But then... a pink parade.
