Deep See Diving

September 14, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

I don’t like bike riding. Well, that’s not totally true. I do like the feeling of the wind in my face and a sense of accomplishment. I don’t like going ten miles when I haven’t ridden for weeks–umm–months. And since we usually ride single file, I miss the communication, the closeness. Those are the things […]

Through the Time Tunnel

September 14, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

Monday, September 13, 2010 I enter a time tunnel and stand in front of Andersen Center, what used to be Andersen Hall. I’m surprised that it still stands. I’m overwhelmed. I look up and see my room. On the corner. With the bay windows. I must go inside. But my husband says we can’t. There […]

Surprise!

September 13, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

Busy days. Cluttered days. How do we break through and create a sense of “HUH?” Like finding a beautifully wrapped gift on a favorite chair. I didn’t see that coming. Did my husband buy something special at Macy’s and find a Nordstom person (Nordie) to wrap it for me? Sticky messages are unexpected. Surprise! They […]

Book Review: Outlive Your Life by Max Lucado

September 10, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

Live. Die. Good-bye. That’s all? I’m not afraid of dying. I’m afraid of not living. Of not leaving some kind of legacy. I think about that a lot lately. Then ta-da! Here comes Max Lucado with his new book, Outlive Your Life. “A first day. A final day. And a few thousand in between. You’ve […]

Dance with the Clouds

September 10, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

I hear it! Distracted. I run from window to window. I see it! I grab my little girl camera. Run! Run outside! Hurry! North. Neighbor’s field. Corn too high. Stand on picnic table. Snap. Snap. Snap. I know they’re chemicals. I’m not big on chemicals. But I get such a thrill, such a rush. Climb. […]

Baggage Enough

September 9, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

“Simplicity is making the journey of this life with just baggage enough.” ~Charles Dudley Warner But when is it baggage enough? We did not take the umbrella or the chairs or the cooler. We saw many who traveled the path bearing those things and more. Some even pushing and yanking strollers through the soft sand. […]

Cornucopia

September 8, 2010 By Sandra Heska King

The wave starts from the west and fans east rounds the curve and travels north rustling applause cicadas chirp-cheer geese honk above and tasseled heads bob and nod He is good abundantly. “Fields of golden grain in the land, cresting the mountains in wild exhuberance Cornucopias of praise, praises springing from the city like grass […]

A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.” ~ William Wordsworth in “My Heart Leaps Up”

From my back door and then from the patio. A phone can never capture the true glory of a rainbow. I hope my heart never fails to leap at the wonder of one.

This is called a sweetheart plant. I bought it at This is called a sweetheart plant. I bought it at a farmers market in Ponte Vedra in Feb 2023. And it hasn’t done a thing except not die. I did repot it a few months back just cuz I thought it might need it. A few days ago I noticed it was sprouting a sprout. And today—10 days after having my aortic valve replaced and the day after having a loop recorder inserted—it has UNFURLED!!! A new heart. 🩷

I know it's done all the time--piece of cake. But that's to other people. 😂 Speaking of cake, I've always hoped to blow out 100 candles (at least), and I keep singing this line in my head...

Hi! Long time, no post. So… I grew this from a pi Hi! Long time, no post. So…

I grew this from a pineapple top. We repotted it again over the weekend. Still no fruit, though. Our neighbor has a baby growing on a small plant, though. What’s up with that?

(Also, I do not have a green thumb. Currently the only things still living are this, an avocado, and a little Boston fern.)

There was not much to see--except the crane family, some blackbirds, a dove. And it was buggy. And a deer fly bit me on the forearm, and it swelled up, and I still have a 1- x 3-inch reddened area. But then... a pink parade.
