I Saw Her Standing There
Hey Dude
I saw her standing there
in the shallows
shunning your advances
as you teased her toes.
She twisted and turned
and swayed her hips
as the wind whipped
hair around her face.
My heart went boom
when I crossed that room
and I longed to sweep her
into my arms, hold her hand
in mine, and sink into the
rhythm of the ocean’s song.
How could I dance with another
when I saw her standing there?
My heart went boom
but I didn’t mean to
bump her so hard.
~ In memory of the Cocoa Beach wave that ripped my ACL.

“but I didn’t mean to bump her so hard.” Ouch. And love the song reference~

Such a freak thing. That’s how most of my major injuries have happened–weird stuff.

Awesome poem. Sorry that the wave got you!
Sandra Heska King says
Well, it was a long time ago. Still worth a lot of laughs.
Thanks, Barbie.

A beautiful poem, and when I saw how you memorialized it, i almost laughed. Not at your injury but the way I thought it was a person! Good job!

Laugh away, friend. We do. It’s well sealed in our family memory banks.

LOL – that same wave shoved me into my husband at the beach in June, making my nose bleed and sunglasses fall off! My noise hurt for the rest of the week! I so enjoyed your poem – and that wave that doesn’t mean to – but bumps too hard!
Sandra Heska King says
Sometimes waves just don’t know their own strength. Ouch.

Beautiful poem and it’s funny, sorry but not for the injury you got, the way you retelling it 🙂

Fantastic poem about a not-so fantastic experience. Waves can and do take us by surprise at times, don’t they?
Blessings, Sandy!

They slip in when we least expect them. We always need to be on guard, right? Thanks, Martha.
