Carried Away

I am in the car on our way home from church. It’s a window-down, roof-open kind of day. But oh so windy. I grasp my hair in a fisted ponytail. But then give up and let go. It whips around my face. Stinging. Tangling. I close my eyes and lift my face to the sun. And I am on the beach. Throbbing. Baking. A cloud drifts between the light and me. I wait. I will see it again. Feel it again. And I do. Blazing in its fullness. Brighter. Hotter. I melt under it. Into it. Water ripples against my toes. Teasing. Freeing. I sink into the rhythm of wheels on concrete waves And am carried out to sea Adrift on blue under blue. Alone yet not. Bobbing. Swaying. Then I am home. And I eat lunch. Linked to L.L.
